It is estimated that approximately about 40 – 45% of adult men and women in Western countries have at least one manifest Sexual Dysfunction.

Asian studies showed doubling of the prevalence rate among its population. With India being touted as the diabetic capital of the World, Erectile Dysfunction in men and Orgasmic Dysfunction in women will be imposing a major burden on the Sexual Health of the Indians.

Recent studies have clearly indicated that Sexual Health cannot be neglected if overall General Health has to be achieved. It has now been established that Erectile Dysfunction is an important marker for CVD. Apart from the physical aspects Sexual Dysfunctions are known to adversely affect the emotional and social well being of the individuals and couples.

It is regrettable that very few doctors are available in our country to manage this important aspect of Human Health.  This results in unqualified people (Quacks) exploiting the gullible general public and ruining their overall general health.   

Though some Healthcare organizations are attempting to educate and train Medical Professionals in the area of Sexual Health, a large segment of medical Fraternity is not interested in for this program as it is not included in the medical curriculum

To rectify this lacuna. Society for Promotion of Health, Education & Research Everywhere (SPHERE) has taken the initiative to start the Indian College of Sexual Medicine (ICSM) and offer Fellowship program in Sexual Medicine.
